The Problem with More

The Problem with More

October 27, 2026

Today’s Scripture: 1 Timothy 6:17-19

One of the greatest obstacles to generosity is a simple word: More.

Most people believe that if they just had a little more money, a little more security, or a little more success, they would finally feel satisfied. The problem is that “more” never seems to arrive.

As soon as one goal is reached, another appears. The finish line keeps moving.

Paul warned believers not to place their hope in wealth because wealth is uncertain. Money can be helpful, but it was never designed to carry the weight of our trust.

Only God can do that.

The pursuit of more often distracts us from what truly matters. It encourages comparison, fuels anxiety, and keeps us focused on what we lack rather than what God has already provided.

Generosity begins when we stop asking, “How much more do I need?”

And start asking, “How can I faithfully use what God has already given me?”

Contentment is not having everything we want. Contentment is trusting that God is enough. When our confidence rests in Him, we become free to live generously, joyfully, and without fear.

The goal of life is not accumulation.

It is faithfulness.

PERSONAL REFLECTION

What does “more” look like in your life right now? Ask God to replace anxiety and comparison with gratitude and trust.

PRAYER

Father, forgive me for believing that a little more would finally satisfy me. The finish line keeps moving, and the pursuit of more steals my peace. Replace my anxiety and comparison with gratitude and trust. Help me stop asking how much more I need and start faithfully using what You have already given. You alone are enough.
